INTERIOR
ELANDESS 2009

The interior’s distinctly maritime color palette establishes a consistently warm and inviting ambiance, even with the contrasting style elements, such as the floral elegance of the dining room and the bold, sculptural presence of the stainless steel staircase. This harmonious blend of diverse styles, seamlessly integrated with cutting-edge design and technology, gives Elandess its unique and unmistakable character—a true expression of inherent value.

INTERVIEW

IN DIALOGUE WITH
BANNENBERG & ROWELL

Do you have a funny anecdote from a project with Abeking that you can share?

A&R 01

We remember with fondness the time we showed our initial presentation for 60m Elandess to Andre Jonker. We had designed a very progressive interior, though slightly 1970s in mood. Andre thought we had made a mistake and brought the wrong presentation to the meeting. He understands us better now …

DICKIE BANNENBERG

What role does sustainability play for you and your clients?

A&R 02

An increasingly important one. I spearheaded the creation of the Designers’ Protocol with the Water Revolution Foundation after completing a course at the Cambridge Institute of Sustainable Leadership in early 2023. The Protocol is becoming widely adopted by design studios who are often in the closest contact with new build clients, and can lead the conversation and decision-making process with regard to sustainability issues.

DICKIE BANNENBERG

What was the most unusual material you’ve ever used in a yacht?

A&R 03

My father once had a meeting with a client who brought a suitcase of snakeskins with him, saying they would work well applied to architraves. Whilst this may well have been true, it’s not a direction we choose to go in, and are happier working with materials like fast-growing canes and grasses, metal mesh embedded glass, and noble finishes such as oak, limestone and bronze.
