As a general rule, closeness to the customer is unlikely to be measured in kilometres – but it does happen. Abeking & Rasmussen Sales Director Till von Krause is used to going out of his way to meet customers – in the most literal sense. With the aim of presenting an Abeking & Rasmussen superyacht to a prospective customer, he had his work cut out – starting with a flight to New Zealand, to take part in the Millenium Cup on the Abeking & Rasmussen yacht Alithia. From there it was on to Chile, for a road trip that included crossing the Andes. But the trip came to a premature end at the border, when it turned out that he wasn’t allowed to bring the car into the country!

But giving up was not an option. Till von Krause had no other recourse but to pack the model ship in his suitcase, pick up his bags and hitchhike. A friendly Chilean family helped the German visitor to reach the border town, 150 kilometres away, where he was able to hire a car and reach the potential client on time. The latter was impressed by his visitor’s commitment – so it was a good start for the future business relationship.
