Houston didn’t have a problem to commission its new pilot boats from Germany. Quite the opposite: the delivery of the new “Houston” and the “Bayou City” in June 2017 is a result of a long and shared history. In the mid ‘90s, Abeking & Rasmussen employees visited “Houston” and participated in trial boardings and were inspired by the SWATH idea. The rest was history. Abeking & Rasmussen took it upon itself to further develop and improve the SWATH vessel design concept. Five years ago, Nils P. Olschner Sales Director Special Vessels for Abeking & Rasmussen visited the Houston pilots again and could successfully convince the SWATH pioneers of the outstanding and remarkable improvements and advantages of the new SWATH@A&R technology. A previous idea export has turned into a successful technology import.
