Design with a long-term effect

There is nothing wrong with wanting to possess a cool yacht. But it might not be the right approach because coolness wears off much quicker than any furnishings. Terence Disdale, exterior and interior designer of Kibo takes these deliberations seriously and posits this ‘rejection of the wow-effect’ as a constant and unchanging principle that guides his work method. Together in a long standing collaboration with Abeking & Rasmussen, Disdale created a yacht that highlights the traditional, functional and comfortable and discards with effects all together. This, however, does not mean that it lacks impact. The 81,8m yacht impresses with confidence and assertiveness. It is generous, elegant and imposing. The same can be said for the interior that awes with a multitude of nature-inspired materials, textures and surfaces and at the same time lends the space a unique and colourful lightness. “A yacht should have more in common with a beach house than a penthouse.” This is also one of Disdale’s guiding principles. One that in particular made sure Kibo never lost on relevance and esteem.
