Can you still remember your first attempt at a yacht design? Does it still exist?
A&R 01
Before drawing boats everywhere and whenever I could I was building boat models…the first attempts do indeed still exist!

Was this career always your dream, or did an unusual opportunity lead you in this direction?
A&R 02
This has always been my passion and I am living my dream, although I arrived at it on the more traditional path of studying Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture.
ANDREAS ISELI
Is there a specific design that is particularly close to your heart? If so, why?
A&R 03
We don’t pick favourite children … and if we do we keep it to ourselves!
ANDREAS ISELI
What was the quirkiest or most unexpected request from a client?
A&R 04
Definitely covered by an NDA!!
ANDREAS ISELI
What was the most unusual material you’ve ever used in a yacht?
A&R 05
Although quite common on smaller boats I was involved in an All-Carbon 80m+ motoryacht once…
ANDREAS ISELI
Do you have a funny anecdote from a project with Abeking that you can share?
A&R 06
My wife Emily and I met aboard an Abeking project and I proposed to her ten years later aboard that yacht during MYS – with the very kind assistance of the original A+R team and crew! That project was certainly life changing!
ANDREAS ISELI
What is the most important advice you would give to new yacht designers?
A&R 07
Learn how to listen … to requests, experience and suggestions.
ANDREAS ISELI
What role does sustainability play for you and your clients?
A&R 08
Increasingly more. However, before producing power aboard using new or exotic ways my general approach is and has been to try using less of it in general employing a clever hull design or operation first.).

If you had the chance to design a yacht for a movie, which movie would it be, and what would the yacht look like?
A&R 09
It would be an adventure movie about following famous explorers on their tracks, from Antarctica to travelling upstream on the Amazon – it would be a very capable and efficient expedition yacht.
ANDREAS ISELI
What future trends in yacht design excite you the most and why?
A&R 10
One could say the energy production and new propulsion technologies of course but I am also more excited by projects needing less energy in the first place – better hull shapes going back to the likes of efficient sailing vessels. The options we have with glass these days are also exciting.
