Passion in perfection

A MATTER OF SYNERGY

Good design is just as essential as its foundation. Valentin Design holds this principle high. Being an agile and versatile studio with a profound background in engineering and design education, the team prides itself on creating coherent, well balanced and most importantly technically feasible yachts. Every project is customized down to the smallest detail and perfectly aligned with the wishes of the client. Under the Swiss Made label, this approach results in floating masterpieces.

Where innovation meets yacht design

REDEFINING BOUNDARIES

A perfect example of the studio philosophy is the concept study for the 86 meter explorer yacht TIME, envisioned in close collaboration with Abeking & Rasmussen. The visionary project was conceived as the ultimate crossover and uniquely blends true explorer DNA with a refined and traditional yachting experience. This conceptual breakthrough helped trigger a visible shift in the market. Future designs for rugged explorers became more elegant and luxurious while preserving their core advantages such as extended range and increased tender carrying capability.

Design that reimagines spaces
INTERVIEW

IN DIALOGUE WITH
VALENTIN DESIGN

Can you still remember your first attempt at a yacht design? Does it still exist?

A&R 01

My passion for yachts was first sparked by powerboats and speedboats roaming the North Italian lakes. Naturally I tried to capture those sights by sketching and reimagining powerboats myself. My aim was the perfect blend of style, a sense of speed and usability. In fact an evolution of one of these designs still holds a special place in our office to this day.

Valentin

My first attempt at yacht design took the form of a clinker built wooden sailing dinghy. It began as a simple practical necessity, since I needed a new tender for my sailing yacht. It quickly turned into a personal project however. In the end I built two of them.

Romain

Was this career always your dream or did an unusual opportunity lead you in this direction?

A&R 02

Designing yachts is not necessarily a career you consciously set your sights on at a young age. To be honest, back then I did not even know it was possible to create yachts on a drawing board. By naturally following my intuition and my growing fascination with boats, I gradually realized that by honing my skills and absorbing as much knowledge as possible, yacht design would become my future.

Valentin

What led me to yacht design and to naval architecture in particular was a natural evolution shaped by years of sailing adventures and yacht refits. I was always drawn to the complexity of yachts, which is an endless source of learning. Over time, as I became fluent in their operation and technical realities, the act of conception naturally became the next step forward.

Romain

Is there a specific design that is particularly close to your heart? If so, why?

A&R 03

It has to be “TIME”, an 86-metre explorer yacht envisioned in close collaboration with Abeking & Rasmussen. Conceived as the ultimate crossover explorer, she uniquely blends true explorer DNA with a refined, traditional yachting experience.

It remains a genuine breakthrough. One that helped trigger a visible shift in the market. Rugged explorer yachts began to evolve, becoming more elegant and luxurious while preserving their core advantages, such as extended range and increased tender-carrying capability. We are proud to have contributed to this evolution with the creation of “TIME”.

It is certainly a niche that we now cater to with confidence and expertise, and which we continue to push forward with even more groundbreaking ideas the market has yet to see.

Valentin Design

Do you have a funny anecdote from a project with Abeking that you can share?

A&R 04

While we were developing TIME together shortly before Christmas, we had one of our weekly meetings scheduled early in the morning. The night before, Geneva was hit by heavy snowfall and by the next day the city was in complete chaos. Traffic was at a standstill and everyone was stuck. Like many others we were caught in it too and it quickly became clear that we would not make it to the office in time for the meeting. The only comment we received from Björn Benecke was: No surprise, designers do not wake up before 11 a.m. anyway!

Valentin Design

What future trends in yacht design excite you the most and why?

A&R 05

We believe that yachts offering greater autonomy, increased tender storage and strong stylish design are forming a rapidly growing niche within the market. Quite frankly we are fully immersed in developing and creating new concepts to meet this emerging demand. It is an incredibly exciting time that constantly challenges us to design experiences that simply do not exist yet. We truly believe that being a young team with broad technical backgrounds and a shared hunger for success plays to our advantage. Ultimately it allows us to deliver more innovative and thoughtful results for any client who chooses to work with us.
